FATFS on stm32f7

I am trying to set up a test project with cubeMX for stm32f746G disco with a file system.

i have two issues:

1. I want to understand what is the meaning of "user defined" in the Mode section of the FATFS Mode and Configuration in the CubeMX.
2. Is there no possibility to run the FATFS on the internal flash of the stm32f7? must we use an external drive?
