New 'MadeForSTM32™' - what does it actually mean?

Andrew Neil
Super User

From the latest ST emailshot:

https://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/ecosystems/MadeForSTM32.html

What, exactly, are the "quality" metrics?

In particular, what does a "strong" customer service actually mean?

There are some current "partner" products with notably weak customer service; eg,

  • Lack of complete documentation (schematics, user manuals, source code);
  • Documentation (including web links, etc) not maintained;
  • Unresponsive to user questions;
  • No help from ST - "you'll just have to ask the supplier"
A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that worked.
A complex system designed from scratch never works and cannot be patched up to make it work.

Hi @Andrew Neil ,

I assume that you have been contacted by ST to get more details about the MadeForSTM32 program.

To make the information available for All ST Community, I would like to share the following:

MadeForSTM32 is a label delivered by ST to help developers identify third party solutions with the highest level of integration and quality for the STM32 microcontrollers' ecosystem.

There are must-have requirements for a product to be eligible, related to the integration in STM32Cube ecosystem and license terms. The evaluation is based on 3 axis:

  • The first one is hands-on evaluation, including setup, practice and learning.
  • The second one is about the product development process. The masters are usability, functional suitability, performance efficiency, portability, reliability, maintainability, continuous improvement…
  • The third one is about customer support, including process, organization and resource setup.

There are around 100 criteria in total. The label is granted if we reach a sufficient average score on the 3 axis. Recommendations are also provided to the product supplier, for possible improvements. The label applies to a specific version of the product.

You can refer to https://www.st.com/content/st_com/en/ecosystems/MadeForSTM32.html for further information.
