Not sure this is the correct forum, I'm kinda new to micro controllers and need some help. I'm trying to determine what is needed (board/adapter wise)to debug and program a 144 pin IC more specifically SCF5249LAG120 Integrated ColdFire Microprocessor IC

Would that be an NXP / FREESCALE product, not an STMicro (SGS-THOMSON)

Rather old? 2004?

Why this part? Some legacy design you're trying to care take? What tools did the people originally developing it use?

Background Debug Module (BDM) ?

Yes , older IC. It's on a Bose product from 2006 that I do restorations on. The chip has been ID'd as a problem in some units, preventing them from working. I have been vaguely told by another tech who also services the same product (business secret?) that I need a TI development system to reprogram that IC and there are some issues with the original code that causes the shut down of the IC years later. I know there are other development kits out there besides TI but I am not completely knowledgeable on this topic, I don't know if the systems are IC specific or not, so that is why I am asking for help to try and get this all sorted out.

More like CodeWarrior than CodeComposer

Perhaps a TI JTAG / Debugger?

For ColdFire V2/V3/V4, perhaps a MultiLink

ok, thanks. Like I said, I'm going into this pretty green & other tech didn't want to tell too much. Thank you for the info, will check it out and also will see if I get reply from TI after the holiday and go from there. Mostly unchartered territory for me. Ok as far as the coding stuff goes. Thanks for the reply.
